I prefer to see a spread during quiet periods on low float stocks like $DGX for the following reasons.
It deters one-tick flippers from whacking the bid 2 -ticks down.
It greatly reduces the pool of flippers that can sell on the bid without a loss.
People wanting in or to add still have to hit the same ask at .0006.
A large proportion of those that unrealistically bid at .0004 will get taught a lesson (yet again) when the .0006s disappear and the .0007s start at some point in the future.
Remember that 39M has been bought at .0006 now so far and 18M was picked up by longs at .0005 today. That's where a lot of the previous .0005 bid went. The rest are chasing the latest quick flip today.
