A patent can be challenged, yes. Does it give you better hope that it'll go unchallenged and you'll not be sued for infringing on another patent, yes.
I don't get why you think the granting of the patent isn't better than an application. It means it's been reviewed and that it's likely sound. It also means it's more likely to allow freedom to operate without lawsuits occurring for infringement.
