When I was a kid, I'd ask my dad for money to go buy something I wanted, such as a baseball mit when I was 7. Dad, they are 5 bucks at Sears.

Go find a job in the neighborhood, save up 5 bucks and go get it yourself.

I asked why, he said you'll appreciate it far more than if I buy it..

So, I sold fruit to neighbors from our trees, washed windows for an old widow lady up the street, plus dug up dandelions in her back yard...Hey LT.....that was in 1954...the house is right up the street from me...it still has those beautiful yellow flowers...lol

So I saved, bought that mit and slept with it!

When one earns something, it feels so much better than a gift.
