Correct me if I am wrong but I have this view in my head that they would be getting away with all that MORE easily if there were more shares in what I call the trading float. The mass majority of the "FLOAT" is held by strong hands and therefore not available to trade , like the ones we hold here collectively. Seems to me any SHORTER would prefer to COVER at a much LOWER LEVEL but can't get it there without getting into potentially much higher risk area. So there are playing for pennies here.
