That may be true in SC but I can tell you, I saw first-hand this utterly inhumane piglet shed. They truck the piglets to bigger facilities every 3 months, and they are ALL on that steel mesh floor. It's horrific.
As far as chicken: that's why I only eat kosher chicken. If you've every seen factory chicken-slaughtering methods, you'd never eat chicken again. Kosher chicken, each bird is slaughtered individually.
If you haven't read about or seen videos of chicken slaughtering, I warn you, DO NOT DO IT. You will be utterly sickened.
By the way, Mike Osterholm, considered one of the leading world experts on food safety, says that he will eat only Kosher meat. He says that non-kosher cattle are likely enough to have things like the prions that cause Mad Cow disease (because they turn cattle into cannibals by feeding them whatever is left of a cow after it's slaughtered and the good meat is taken away) that he considers regular beef to be unsafe. Cattle raised for kosher slaughter is fed only vegetarian feed, not the remains of other cows.
