Common shares get canceled because they are "last in line", lowest priority.
Debt holders are high priority because they are owed money, so entitled to get paid back.
Each group gets paid back from assets. After the highest priority gets paid back, whatever's left goes to the next group. Those leftovers then go to the next.
ARIOQ's assets ran out long before getting to common shareholders.
There are no shorts.
