Killed in Action is different from the total number of names on the wall, roughly 18,000 fewer. that's how I come by my lower averages.

Weekly reports were specific as to KIA and the heaviest combat occurred from '65 through '70, with '67, '68, '69 providing a horrendous bell shaped curve.

Accidents....teenagers with heavy machinery and weapons, shit happens, always has....died of wounds and illness account for most of the differential.
