BP has a lot of irons in a lot of fires. They can't possibly go around and buy everything from everybody. There are a million possible answers to your question, but it doesn't mean that AMBS just bought a pile of crap as it seems you and Churbz are suggesting.

The better question is: Why would AMBS buy these items if they didn't think they could monetize them in some way? Answer: They wouldn't.
