While I am not a fan of Gerald's executive skills, I have praised him for putting his ego aside and being smart in bringing in talent around him. And it might be the blessing in disguise for handing him the CEO when he probably didn't deserve it. For doing so, people were hired around him that probably opened up doors and avenues that wouldn't have been there had the company hired a more experienced BP exec (reminder that I never said the company needed a hot shot but an experienced exec). Certain outside the box thinking might never have never taken place had someone else taken the CEO job. Time will tell if this all pans out.
