Not for a minute do I believe he would turn over the CEO keys to someone who couldn't handle the job, which is why Gerald was positioned lower in the company and allowed to work his way into the CEO spot over a 5 year period. The employment history of Gerald within the companies don't support your opinion. Sorry.
