Like a jet where all the engines fell off--if those people keep the jet's nose pointed up to the moon and pretend everything is fine, everything will be fine. They're still in the vehicle so they simply ignore the altimeter and they never realize they're down 98%. Besides they believe some change in strategy will provide the force to propel the jet to new highs.
Maybe that's not a great analogy since the 'jet' never had any engines from the beginning, only a story that it had engines and a lot of people singing and flapping their arms to get it off the ground.

Yes, I understand your penny stock also is the real deal, created with the inventiveness of Edison and destined to be the next Microsoft. Yes, I understand that the delays are also only because your company is making their product and/or technology even more revolutionary.
