We must have stiff bid support to move higher. The key is to stack larger and larger bids lower and lower under the current bid, so that no single market player can feel as though he can just borrow a few million shares from a margin account and dump them all on whatever puny bid exists out there in order to arbitrarily get the PPS to take a massive fall back down to the basement. If there is a pyramid of very large bids at various levels going all the way down then it acts as a cushion for the current bid/ask and keeps the tick by tick game a little more fair, as well as constrained; the MMs will not just bounce it all around up 20%, down 20%, etc every other trade if there is such robust bid support below the current price. In fact with such strong bid support, the tendency will be for sellers to move up their ASKs and the MMs to push the PPS higher; wouldn't that be nice to see for a change?!
