I think they bought them with a view to selling them on to a third party.
The only real reason SRGE was set up was to protect the assets disputed by BGL. Once MSJ was sure BGL could not win, they decided to transfer the assets back to MSJ and carry on negotiating to sell them to someone.
That's the way I see it.
