Shale exploration expected to ramp up

10/29/2013 - 06:51 PM
BATON ROUGE - Oil and gas officials in Louisiana expect activity to ramp up on the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale sometime in 2014.

According to Baton Rouge Consultant Dr. Loren Scott, The Goodrich Petroleum Corporation recently bought several leases throughout the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale area. Scott also said a technological innovation in fracking at Goodrich has prompted their recent lease signings.

Charlotte Batson, CEO of Tuscaloosa Energy Services, said the increased activity around the shale area could bring thousands of jobs with it in the long run. She's speaking Thursday at the Hammond Chamber meeting about activity around the TMS.

A geological survey in 1997 reported that there were approximately 7 billion gallons of oil in the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale.

According to Department of Natural Resources, TMS activity is happening in these parishes:

*East Feliciana
*Rapides
*Sabine
*St. Helena
*Tangipahoa
*Vernon
*West Feliciana
