KBC Group Achieves Significant Net Profit in Q3
KBC Group proudly announces a net profit of 868 million euros for its third quarter. This figure reflects a slight decrease from the previous quarter's results but highlights a robust operational performance fueled by various positive influences. Key contributors to the income included higher net interest income, despite a drop in income from inflation-linked bonds, and a rise in insurance revenues stemming from strategic commercial actions.
Driving Factors Behind Income Evolution
As the third quarter unfolded, KBC Group saw its total income bolstered by exceptional business performance across various sectors. The increase in net fee and commission income also played a crucial role. However, trading and fair value income experienced a decline, influenced significantly by seasonal trends, particularly a drop in dividend income following the previous quarter's peak.
Loan and Deposit Growth
Our loan portfolio exhibited notable growth, with a 1% increase quarter-on-quarter and a significant 5% rise year-on-year. Deposits showed a comparable positive trend—rising 3% from the last quarter and 5% from the same period last year. Specifically in Belgium, customer deposits surged by 5% compared to the last quarter and an impressive 8% year-on-year. This growth was largely attributed to the strategic recuperation of customer funds, with inflows reaching 6.5 billion euros, significantly surpassing the previous year's outflow.
Managing Operational Expenses
Operational expenses showed an uptick during this quarter, but they remained aligned with the full-year guidance for 2024. The increase in insurance service expenses was partially due to costly damage from recent storms and floods affecting Central Europe, notably Storm Boris. KBC Group has been proactive in addressing these challenges, extending support to approximately 10,000 customers affected by these disasters.
Solid Financial Metrics and Strategy
KBC Group continues to showcase a solid financial foundation with a common equity ratio standing at 15.2% as of the end of September. Our liquidity position remains robust, evidenced by an LCR of 159% and NSFR of 142%. Consistent with our commitment to shareholders, an interim dividend of 1 euro per share is scheduled to be paid in line with our overall dividend policy.
Embracing Digital Transformation
Our focus on digital sales has proven beneficial, with more than 55% of banking products and 29% of insurance products sold via digital channels. The advancements made with our digital assistant, Kate, have been noteworthy; over 5 million customers have interacted with her, marking a 37% increase from last year. This automation has led to a 67% resolution rate in Belgium and 69% in the Czech Republic, showcasing significant enhancement in efficiency.
The Path Forward
Looking ahead, KBC Group aspires to solidify its position as the leading bank-insurer in its core markets. Our growth strategy is intensified by a customer-centric approach, fostering trust among our customers, employees, and stakeholders alike. We are dedicated to maintaining this trust as we navigate forward.
