Innovative Strategies for Educational Improvement Announced by AIR
American Institutes for Research Launching New Educational Initiatives
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is excited to announce new initiatives aimed at bolstering educational outcomes across various states and the nation as a whole. Through strategic partnerships and a wealth of experience, AIR is set to play a pivotal role in addressing educational challenges that confront students today.
Purpose of the New Centers
Selected by the U.S. Department of Education, AIR will lead four centers designed to enhance capacity building in education. These centers are a part of the Comprehensive Center Network supported by federal funding, which aims to empower states and school districts through tailored technical assistance (TA) and resource allocation.
Support for Local Educators
AIR’s commitment to improving education is evident through the establishment of three Regional Comprehensive Centers (RCCs) and a National Content Center. Each of these centers will focus on vital areas such as fiscal equity. The centers will serve to improve teaching practices and ensure equitable access to educational resources, thus fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Regional Focus Areas
- Northeast Comprehensive Center is poised to work with districts in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. This center aims to connect educators with evidence-based strategies that enhance decision-making around teaching practices.
- Midwest Comprehensive Center focuses on Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. It emphasizes on engaging with underserved students and fostering effective community partnerships to ensure localized support systems.
- West Comprehensive Center serves Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah, addressing pressing educational issues, such as chronic absenteeism, by scaling effective educational strategies and resources.
Introducing the Fiscal Equity Center
Alongside the RCCs, AIR will establish a new Fiscal Equity Center. This center’s mission is to assist states and districts in creating fair and sufficient resource allocation strategies. Operating in conjunction with key partners, including Afton Partners, AIR will ensure that funding reaches the areas where it's needed most to facilitate equitable education.
Commitment to Evidence-Based Practices
Julie Kochanek, a senior vice president at AIR’s Human Services Division, expressed excitement over the new initiatives, highlighting the potential of evidence-based TA to bridge equity gaps and bolster student achievement. By actively listening to educators and leaders, AIR aims to meet the varied needs of educational institutions with informed, inclusive methods.
Collaboration with McREL International
In addition to its leadership role in the new centers, AIR will collaborate with McREL International to support the Central Comprehensive Center, which includes a broad region incorporating Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. This collaboration underscores AIR’s commitment to providing high-quality educational services and resources.
