HHRD Launches Fundraiser for Bangladesh Flood Relief
Recently, Bangladesh has faced devastating flooding due to significant impacts of climate change, which has affected millions of people. In response, Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) has launched an important fundraising campaign aimed at providing emergency assistance to those in urgent need.
The Effects of Climate Change
Despite its impressive GDP growth over the years, Bangladesh remains highly susceptible to the negative impacts of climate change. The country frequently experiences natural disasters, particularly floods and cyclones, which present serious challenges. The heavy rains in August 2024 have resulted in catastrophic floods, affecting around 5 million people, including 2 million children.
Extent of the Crisis
The floods have inundated over 311,419 hectares of land, damaging infrastructure and disrupting education for countless students. Tragically, more than 7,000 schools have had to close, leaving 175,000 students without access to education. Additionally, rising civil unrest has made life increasingly difficult for low-income families, compounding their hardships.
HHRD’s Urgent Call to Action
In light of this crisis, HHRD is urgently working to raise over $300,000 to support life-saving relief efforts. The organization is dedicated to collaborating with local partner NGOs to deliver essential resources, such as cooked meals and dry food rations, directly to marginalized communities impacted by the floods.
Continuing Humanitarian Efforts
For more than 15 years, HHRD has been committed to alleviating human suffering in Bangladesh through a variety of initiatives, including Orphan Support, Healthcare & Nutrition, Water & Sanitation Hygiene, and Emergency Relief. The organization has also been actively involved in providing crucial humanitarian aid to Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar.
Dedication to the Cause
Ilyas Choudry, HHRD’s Development Director, shared an uplifting message: "On this International Day of Charity, let us come together in our shared humanity to provide relief and hope to the millions in Bangladesh facing significant challenges." This statement reflects HHRD's dedication to fostering community support and collaboration in times of crisis.
HHRD’s Recognition and Accomplishments
HHRD has earned a stellar reputation among charitable organizations, ranking in the top 3% of over 9,000 NGOs. It has maintained a perfect 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for the past nine years and holds an A+ accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. This level of trust from donors highlights the organization’s commitment to accountability and transparency in its operations.
