Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. Begins Drilling in Beetaloo Sub-basin
Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. Unveils New Drilling Program
Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. (“Falcon” or “Company”) is thrilled to announce a significant milestone as its 2024 drilling program kicks off with the spudding of the Shenandoah South 2H (“SS2H”) horizontal well. This operation is underway in exploration permit 98 located in the Beetaloo Sub-basin.
Details of the Shenandoah South 2H Well
The SS2H well is being drilled with cutting-edge equipment, specifically the H&P super-spec FlexRig® Flex 3 Rig. It boasts an impressive horizontal section of approximately 3,000 metres, targeting the Amungee Member B-shale at an estimated depth of 3,020 metres. Each well is projected to take about 30 days to complete, allowing for a swift progression through the drilling process.
Following Drilling Plans
Immediately after drilling the SS2H well, Falcon will move on to the Shenandoah South 3H (“SS3H”) well, which will be positioned at the same site. This seamless transition is designed to optimize operational efficiency as they prepare for subsequent stimulation programs.
Innovative Stimulation Techniques
Stimulation for both wells is set to utilize up to 60 stages with the advanced Liberty Energy frac fleet. The team is currently mobilizing this fleet from the United States to Australia, leveraging modern technology to enhance efficiency. The capabilities of the Liberty fleet are expected to facilitate a remarkable increase in the number of completed stages per day, leading to optimized gas flows.
Expected Outcomes and Future Production
Initial flow test results from the SS2H and SS3H wells are anticipated in early 2025. After testing, these wells will likely transition to being future producers aimed at contributing to the proposed Shenandoah South Pilot Project, which has a target output of 40 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d). Production is projected to start by mid-2026, pending the necessary stakeholder and regulatory approvals.
Significance of the Drilling Campaign
This double well program marks a pivotal moment as it is poised to be the largest single campaign within the Beetaloo Sub-basin to date. Moreover, Falcon has exciting plans for an additional four well program slated for 2025, further advancing the goals of the Shenandoah South Pilot Project, which aims to provide the Northern Territory government with a reliable gas supply.
Company Participation Rate
For both wells in this ambitious project, Falcon Australia is participating with an elected interest of 5%. This involvement underscores Falcon's commitment to developing large-scale projects that benefit the broader energy landscape in the region.
CEO Insights on the Project
Philip O’Quigley, CEO of Falcon, shared his enthusiasm regarding the commencement of the SS2H well: “This drilling initiative represents a thrilling next step in our efforts in the Beetaloo Sub-basin. Based on the successes we’ve seen, especially with the Shenandoah South 1H well, we are optimistic about what this phase of drilling holds.” He also noted the importance of the advanced Liberty frac fleet in enhancing stimulation effectiveness.
