Enefit Green Achieves Milestone of Over 1000 MW in Capacity
Enefit Green Reaches Major Renewable Energy Milestone
Recently, Enefit Green celebrated a significant achievement in its renewable energy journey by surpassing a total installed electricity generation capacity of 1000 megawatts. This momentous milestone was reached with the recent developments in Lithuania and Estonia, which are pivotal to expanding the company's renewable energy footprint in the Baltic Sea region.
Opening of the Šilal? II Wind Farm
The festivities began with the opening of the Šilal? II wind farm, which boasts a capacity of 43 megawatts. This development marks another step forward for renewable energy production in the region. With clean energy generation being a vital component in combating climate change, projects like these are crucial.
Construction of Kelme II Wind Farm
In the same spirit of growth, plans for the Kelme II wind farm have also taken shape, slated to produce 87 megawatts and located near the existing Kelme I wind farm. The ongoing expansions exemplify Enefit Green's commitment to enhancing its capacity and its efforts to harness wind power effectively.
Advancements at the Sopi-Tootsi Wind Farm
The most significant recent achievement includes the installation of the last of the 38 wind turbines at the Sopi-Tootsi wind farm, which has now grown to a remarkable 255 megawatts, making it the largest wind farm in the Baltics. With twelve turbines already operational, this project is set to contribute significantly to the electricity grid, fostering a sustainable future.
Current Operating Capacities
As of now, Enefit Green operates at a capacity of 587 megawatts, with 637 megawatts of new capacities under development. From this, 459 megawatts have been installed, of which approximately 204 megawatts are already generating electricity. This steady progression demonstrates the company’s strategic focus on renewable energy and its readiness to meet future energy demands.
Enefit Green: A Leader in Renewable Energy Production
Known as one of the preeminent renewable energy producers in the Baltic Sea region, Enefit Green operates a diversified array of facilities. This includes wind farms across Estonia and Lithuania, a waste-to-energy combined heat and power plant in Estonia, solar farms in Estonia and Poland, and a hydroelectric plant in Estonia. The company is currently expanding its portfolio by developing additional wind and solar farms across several countries including Latvia and Finland.
Production Achievements and Future Direction
In 2023, Enefit Green produced an impressive 1,343 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity and 604 GWh of heat energy, along with 156 thousand tonnes of wood pellets, showcasing its comprehensive capability in energy production. However, towards the end of 2023, the company made a strategic decision to exit the biomass-based CHP and pellet production businesses to focus more on sustainable energy initiatives.
