Initial photos from December 2023 showed a greenfield location, and just a year later, in December 2024, the site is fully prepared for the commencement of CHAR Tech facility construction, set to begin in 2025. During 2024, CHAR Tech successfully finalized the engineering package for wood waste to biocarbon production. With a target date for commercial biocarbon production in late 2025, the commencement of construction depends on weather patterns and the severity of the winter in Northern Ontario.

Saint-Félicien Renewable Energy Facility
Recently, CHAR Tech announced an exciting milestone: the Government of Québec approved a funding grant of $2.5 million through the Programme Innovation Bois to support the advancement of the Saint-Félicien project. This project is set to convert wood waste and residuals into biocarbon, providing a carbon-neutral alternative to metallurgical coal, while also producing green hydrogen, which will be upgraded into RNG.
Located strategically at an industrial cogeneration facility site, the Saint-Félicien project benefits from existing utilities, a significant advantage for CHAR Tech as it prepares to execute this vital renewable energy initiative.

La Société de cogénération de Saint-Félicien (SCSF), owned by Green Leaf Power, operates a 25 megawatt cogeneration facility capable of converting approximately 260,000 green metric tonnes of wood waste biomass into renewable energy each year. This partnership ensures a long-term supply of wood waste feedstock and provides the necessary infrastructure to assure project readiness and success.
As CHAR Tech progresses into 2025, detailed engineering will continue alongside efforts to secure the financial framework essential for launching the project. The aim is to kick-off construction within the year, with operations expected to begin in 2026.
