Celebrating Heroes: Tunnel to Towers 2024 Season of Hope
Reimagining Support for America’s Heroes
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has proudly embarked on its sixth Annual Season of Hope, continuing its meaningful mission to provide the gift of mortgage-free homes for our nation's heroes. This remarkable initiative enables families to receive the support they need during the holiday season.
Delivering Hope Through Housing
Running until Christmas Eve, the Foundation has committed to delivering 40 mortgage-free homes across the nation, bringing hope and relief to America's veterans and first responders. The unwavering generosity from citizens throughout the country has led to over 210 homes being provided to these heroes and their families this year alone.
Celebrating Heroic Stories
The launch of this uplifting season included a heartfelt emphasis on accessibility. Tunnel to Towers honored three courageous individuals by paying off their mortgages and upgrading their homes to better suit their needs:
Corporal John Munoz-Ramirez
Originally from San Jose, Costa Rica, Corporal John Paul Munoz-Ramirez was inspired by heroic videos of Marines and enlisted in 2005. Following a devastating deployment in Afghanistan, he faced a life-altering injury when he triggered an IED. This explosion resulted in the loss of his left leg below the knee, several fingers, and a traumatic brain injury. With unwavering spirit, he looks forward to the holidays in his newly modified smart home, allowing him to enjoy family moments and stability.
“The modifications Tunnel to Towers made to our house were designed to grow with me, thoughtfully crafted to reflect my needs and my journey,” he expressed, sharing how the personalized touches have transformed his house into a true home.
Specialist Andy Kingsley
Following in his father's footsteps, Specialist Andy Kingsley enlisted in the Army in 2008. Tragically, during a fierce attack on Combat Outpost Sabari in Afghanistan, he suffered catastrophic injuries that changed his life forever. The culmination of wounds from the attack led to the amputation of his right leg above the knee, and he also endured shrapnel injuries, partial vision loss, and PTSD.
After a challenging recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, he is immensely grateful for the modifications made to his Myrtle Beach home, where he now resides with his wife and children. “I feel truly blessed to have received this help,” he shared. “Words cannot express how relieved I feel to have a forever home that accommodates my needs.”
Sergeant Kevin Brugaletta
Sergeant Brugaletta, who served with distinction for 18 years in the San Francisco Police Department, encountered a life-threatening incident when a falling tree struck his vehicle during a storm, resulting in severe injuries. After seven arduous months of rehabilitation, he remains steadfast in his recovery journey. "I can’t express enough how much this means to my family and me,” he reflected. “Now, we can focus on my recovery and making memories with loved ones without the financial burden weighing us down.”
Empowering Lives with Smart Home Technology
The Tunnel to Towers Smart Home Program is dedicated to supporting America’s wounded veterans and first responders by creating specially adapted homes that cater to their unique needs. Each home is equipped with smart technology and design features that promote independence and comfort, allowing these brave individuals to live fulfilling lives.
Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, expressed deep gratitude towards the American public, stating, “Thanks to the generosity of Americans, 40 families will receive the gift of a mortgage-free home this holiday season. These homes offer a sanctuary for these heroes, allowing them to celebrate and cherish time with their loved ones for many years to come.”
