Dura Tent, Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is it so important that the Dura-Tent be "Fully Enclosed"?
A: Being "Fully Enclosed" allows the food to be completely protected while eliminating the chance that the protective covering will blow away. Other products blow away leaving the food unprotected and you chasing the covers instead of enjoying your party. Once the food is placed inside the Dura-Tent, the covering will not blow away while maintaining a protective barrier at all times.
Q: Can you access the food from both sides of the Dura-Tent?
A: Yes. This feature was important to everyone when we were testing the product. Place it on a table and access the food from either side.
Q: Is it easy to use the Dura-Tent?
A: Yes, it is very easy to use! Simply flip the door flap up, get your food and then drop the door back down and off you go. One hand operation… after all, you’re holding a plate so it had to be single hand operation.
Q: Is it easy to assemble the Dura-Tent?
A: Yes, three simple steps and you’re ready to enjoy your party. People of all ages tell us the product is easy to assemble and use.
Q: Is the Dura-Tent safe:
A: Yes. The metal parts have been certified lead free and the poles are certified non-toxic. These specifications meet children toy standards.
Q: How much food will the Dura-Tent hold?
A: The picnic style will hold a large platter of your main dish (hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ ribs and/or chicken), two large side dishes, condiments, chip and dip dishes. You can even put some flowers inside for decorations. The Banquet style holds up to four large serving pans or three stacked lazy Susans which can display your food vertically.
Q: What size(s) do I need?
A: For a couple of people or a couple of families getting together, one picnic style works well. If you're serving both hot and cold foods or hosting the team party, you might want to get two picnic sizes. If you are having a family reunion or the annual block parties where the invitation list is quite large, the banquet style is a must have. Our family uses two picnic and one banquet throughout the year. When we are using the banquet style, we also use the picnic style for desserts and paper products.
Q: How easy is it to care for the Dura-Tent?
A: Simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Let it air dry and fold it away for storage.
Q: Is the Dura-Tent durable?
A: Yes, we have tens of thousands Dura-Tents that have been in use over three years with a continued growing fan base.
Q: How does it keep flies off my food?
A: Being a full enclosure, the Dura-Tent cannot blow off the food, but equally important, the flies cannot crawl under it to get in. The flaps were designed to be larger than the opening to provide maximum protection against insects. In addition, the doors latch closed with a little Velcro in the center to keep them closed on windy days. We have observed that a fly will land on the outside of the enclosure, walk around a little bit and then flies away.
Q: Can kids use the Dura-Tent?
A: Yes. Children can access the Dura-Tent and serve themselves. While they are holding their plate, they simply flip up the door, get their food and then put the door back down. One hand operation!
Q: Is the Dura-Tent better than a plate cover?
A: Yes. The Dura-Tent allows you to serve platters and bowls of food that you normally serve when guests come over. With the food inside the Dura-Tent and the door latched closed, the Dura-Tent cannot fly away. Put paper products inside and they too will not blow away. Single hand operation so you never have to put your plate down or ask someone for help: flip up the door, get your food and flip the door back down. It is that simple.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for the Dura-Tent?
A: We were sitting around my brother-in-law's pool and we did not want the food inside the house with people coming in and out of the house with wet swimsuits so the food was placed outside. Mom ended up guarding the food from the insects because the foil that was used to protect the food was ripped and plate covers were too small for the portions that were being served. After brainstorming ways to solve the problem and three years of designing and market testing, we are now selling a product we are very proud of.
Q: Where are people using the Dura-Tent?
A: People use the Dura-Tent for backyard parties, picnics at the park, birthday parties, play dates, family reunions, pool parties, team celebrations, national holiday celebrations, weddings, graduation celebrations, camping or while on the road in the RV, Hawaiian luaus, company parties, catered events, tailgating, and the list goes on.
Q: Do flies really pose a risk?
A: Yes, they pose a significant health risk. Scientists from universities such as John Hopkins, UC Davis, Oklahoma State and several others are showing that notable percentages of flies are carriers and depositors of antibiotic resistant E Coli and MRSA. In addition, 100% of them carry a combination of over a million different strains of bacteria. The CDC notes it only takes 100 such spores to turn fatal in youths, seniors, and those with compromised immune systems. The rest of us can become very ill through ingesting such bacteria. So flies do pose a real health risk, and please don’t let your food go unprotected outside.
