Western Metallica Uncovers Promising Results at Caña Brava

Exciting Developments at Caña Brava Project

Western Metallica Resources Corp. (TSXV: WMS) is thrilled to share noteworthy findings from its current drilling initiative at the Luz Maria copper-molybdenum site within the Caña Brava Project in Northern Peru. The initial results from two completed drill holes have revealed significant geological structures, including multiple diorite intrusions and polymictic hydrothermal breccia. The ongoing assay analysis shows consistent potassic alteration with various vein systems and notable sulfide mineralization, characteristic of typical Andean porphyry systems.

Drilling Details and Findings

Drilling Highlights

The results from the ongoing drill program are promising. So far, three diamond drill holes have been successfully completed at the Luz Maria prospect. These holes were strategically drilled from the center of an identified geochemical anomaly towards the main chargeability anomaly. Each hole unearthed extensive intervals of strongly altered intrusive rocks, revealing complex alteration assemblages typical of this geological environment.

Target Area and Methodology

The focus of the current drilling operations covers an area of approximately 500 meters by 300 meters, which accounts for less than 5% of the discovered alteration footprint at Luz Maria. This targeted sector features prominently altered diorite and quartz-monzonite outcrops, coinciding with strong magnetic and chargeability anomalies discovered through drone-based magnetic and Induced Polarization surveys conducted recently.

Success of Initial Drill Holes

Drill hole LM24DD001, completed to a depth of 396.1 meters by contractor Energold, intersected 275 meters of mineralized diorite, showcasing continuous and almost uniform grades averaging 400 ppm of copper and 100 ppm of molybdenum. Throughout this drill, there was a significant observation of secondary biotite along with phyllic alteration assemblages comprising quartz and sericite. The mineralization was observed as disseminated chalcopyrite and molybdenite within a stockwork of Early Biotite veins.

Progress in Assays

Many of the assay results from drill hole LM24DD002, which reached a depth of 329.7 meters, have been received. Among the best-assessed results so far is a segment showing 1.8 meters at 0.2% Cu within a high-density pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite vein.

Continuous Exploration

Future Plans

Drill hole LM24DD003, the easternmost hole drilled, was stopped at a depth of 330.45 meters due to operational issues. However, it still revealed a strongly altered quartz-monzonite intrusion, suggesting mineralization potential moving further eastward. The drilling to date has firmly established the Caña Brava Project as a complex Cu-Mo porphyry system with multiple phases. As a result, the intensity of alteration, along with varying degrees of mineralization across both intrusive and sedimentary rocks, stands as a promising sign for the project's future.

Expert Insights

Giovanni Funaioli, the Vice President of Exploration at Western Metallica Resources, expressed enthusiasm regarding the current findings. He noted the ongoing 6-hole maiden scout drill program aims to evaluate the potential scale and grade of this porphyry system. The initial holes affirmed exploration assumptions correlating the magnetic anomalies to a copper-molybdenum-bearing porphyry system that remains unmeasured. Excitement builds as the further eastern alterations signify nearness to the core of this promising system.

Geological Context and Project Background

Western Metallica has the option to secure 100% of the mineral claims and interests associated with the Caña Brava Project, located prominently within the under-explored Northern sector of the region known for its Cu-Mo metallogenic belt. This regional area harbors some of the world-renowned deposits, unlocking the potential for Caña Brava to yield similar high-grade mineralization.

Strategic Location

The Caña Brava prospect spans an impressive 5,700 hectares positioned just 30 kilometers from the Peruvian coast at an elevation of 1,500 meters in the Western Cordillera of the Andes. Its proximity to major infrastructure strengthens its logistical advantage. Previous exploration has pinpointed a significant alteration footprint, comparable to other major Peruvian porphyry deposits.

Commitment to Quality

Assurance Protocols

The assurances towards quality and analytical integrity remain paramount. Sample preparations adhere to industry standards, with rock samples meticulously crushed, split, and pulverized before undergoing chemical analyses that include gold and multi-element assessments. All analyses are conducted through a reputable laboratory in Lima, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
