VR Resources Completes Significant Drilling at Empire Project
Vancouver, BC – VR Resources Ltd. (TSX.V: VRR, FSE: 5VR; OTCBB: VRRCF) recently announced the successful completion of its Phase 1 reconnaissance drill program at the Empire District Project, located in Northwestern Ontario. This project is particularly notable for its 1 x 2 km magnetic anomaly at Westwood.
Drilling Highlights
The drilling program involved five holes, totaling an impressive 1,188 meters. The primary goal was to explore the center of the copper-gold-PGE mineral system that is exposed on the surface along the Trans Canada Highway, specifically targeting the southwestern part of the magnetic high anomaly.
The most intriguing result came from Hole 5, WW24-005, which was drilled to a depth of 201 meters. This hole followed up on the earlier Hole 4, revealing a coarse-grained, cumulate-textured mafic-ultramafic intrusive rock type. By drilling Hole 5 at a steeper angle, the team aimed to intersect more of the cumulate-textured mafic rock that dips steeply to the southeast, effectively targeting the heart of an 18 mV/V chargeability anomaly.
Understanding the Geological Features
Initial analysis shows that the drilling has successfully intersected the targeted cumulate-textured mafic rock on either side of the Westwood magnetic anomaly. Additionally, it has confirmed that the Westwood anomaly is a complex polyphase intrusive structure. This complex includes various types of rock, such as a light-colored leucogabbro dominating the outer zones, which stretch over 2.5 km along the highway. As one moves closer to the anomaly, there’s an observable increase in darker mafic magma mixing, culminating in steeply southeast-dipping mafic-ultramafic units at the core.
Photos and Additional Findings
Photographs from the drilling demonstrate the target lithology, particularly showing the coarse cumulate texture of melanocratic gabbro observed in the hole. These images highlight dark green euhedral amphibole crystals embedded in a matrix of pale white to pink interstitial quartz-feldspar and sulfide.
CEO Justin Daley expressed his satisfaction with the progress thus far, stating, "The consistent results from our drilling program have provided essential insights into the complex geology of the Westwood target. As we tested various chargeability targets using data from our recent IP survey, we noted strong correlations with the geophysical features observed in magnetic and DIGEM surveys." He emphasized the significance of understanding the polymodal nature of the mineralization observed in the area, particularly in relation to the known Cu-Au-PGE mineralization patterns seen at the Lac des Iles complex to the east.
Daley concluded with enthusiasm about the next steps, indicating their eagerness to receive assay results and to continuously refine their 3D model using data gathered from geochemistry and structural observations.
About the Empire Project
The Empire Project encompasses 313 mineral claims within a single contiguous block, covering 10,254 hectares. It is situated on federal crown land, with mineral rights managed by the Ontario Ministry of Mines. While the claims are subject to a 2% net smelter royalty, there are no annual fees required. However, the Ministry mandates certain annual exploration expenditures and the submission of mineral assessment reports to maintain good standing on the claims. It is noteworthy that the project lies within the traditional territories of the Lac de Mille Lacs First Nation.
Technical Information and Analysis
Samples from both surface grab and drill core have been sent for geochemical analysis to AGAT laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Each drill core sample underwent logging, cutting, and preparation at the Holbik Exploration warehouse in Upsala, Ontario, before being sent for analysis. The testing procedures adhered to industry standards and NI 43-101 compliant QAQC protocols, ensuring the reliability of the findings.
