Volaris Shares Traffic Results for August 2024
MEXICO CITY, Sept. 04, 2024 -- Controladora Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR) is excited to present its preliminary traffic results for August 2024. This ultra-low-cost airline continues to effectively serve customers across Mexico, the United States, and other regions.
Summary of August 2024 Traffic Results
In August, Volaris saw a 15.1% decrease in available seat miles (ASMs) compared to the same month last year. This decline is mainly due to ongoing inspections of Pratt & Whitney engines, which have resulted in some aircraft being temporarily grounded. Nevertheless, Volaris managed to transport 2.6 million passengers, achieving a strong load factor of 87.0%, which is on par with the previous year.
Key Performance Highlights
When looking at revenue passenger miles (RPMs), there was an overall decrease of 15.3%. The Mexican domestic market experienced a notable drop of 22.0%, while international RPMs remained relatively stable. This situation illustrates how the company is navigating operational challenges while still catering to travel demand.
Leadership Insights
Enrique Beltranena, the President and CEO of Volaris, shared his thoughts on the company's strategic management during this challenging time. He remarked, "Our fleet mitigation plan is progressing well, and we're meeting our operational targets despite having nearly 30% of our fleet grounded." He reassured stakeholders by confirming an annual capacity guidance that indicates an approximate 14% reduction.
Operational Achievements
Despite the challenges with aircraft availability, Volaris concluded the summer high season with commendable operational performance and high load factors, driven by strong travel demand. Beltranena emphasized that passengers can expect ongoing adjustments as the airline manages its flight schedules in light of the engine inspection process.
Insights into Passenger Metrics
The financial health and operational efficiency of the airline continue to develop, with Volaris focusing on providing a quality travel experience. RPMs are calculated by multiplying the number of seats booked by the number of miles flown, offering insight into the busyness of the airline's routes.
