Velico Expands Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations
Velico, a pioneering medical technology company based in Beverly, Massachusetts, has announced a major expansion of its manufacturing and supply chain operations to respond to the rapidly growing demand for its innovative FrontlineODP™ Spray Dried Plasma Manufacturing System.
About the FrontlineODP™ System
The FrontlineODP™ System is designed to empower military and civilian blood centers, enabling them to produce dried plasma from liquid donor plasma within 30 minutes. This innovative approach provides a vital solution where rapid medical intervention is crucial. Once processed, the dried plasma is stored in ultra-lightweight plastic bags that can last up to two years, ensuring long-term usability, especially in emergency situations.
Life-Saving Benefits
Notably, when the dried plasma is rehydrated at the point of injury, it only takes about three minutes, providing immediate life-saving support for patients experiencing severe bleeding. This efficiency is critical for both military and civilian applications, where time is of the essence in crisis situations.
Decentralized Manufacturing Model
Velico's decentralized manufacturing model envisions a global network comprised of hundreds of blood centers. Each center is expected to be capable of drying tens of thousands of plasma units annually. The anticipated adoption of the FrontlineODP™ System by top military and civilian blood centers is surging across North America, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific region. In fact, the combined annual production from the installed and contracted manufacturing systems is projected to surpass 100,000 units.
New Production Facilities and Capacity
To address this growing demand, Velico is finalizing plans for new production facilities dedicated to manufacturing FrontlineODP™ consumables tailored for both European and Indo-Pacific markets. Each state-of-the-art facility is designed with full automation in mind, allowing for the production of up to 250,000 units each year. When combined with two existing facilities in the U.S., Velico's overall capacity will support the production of nearly one million units of spray dried plasma annually.
CEO's Commitment to Growth
“For years, we have invested significantly in research and development to ensure mass availability of life-saving dried plasma,” said Richard Meehan, President & CEO of Velico. “As global adoption accelerates, we are scaling our operations to meet unprecedented demand, which is essential for reducing hemorrhage-related fatalities worldwide.”
Velico’s recently appointed Vice President of Manufacturing, Andrew Racicot, emphasized that “Expanding our global manufacturing footprint enhances Velico's efficiency, consistency, and quality, ensuring that crucial life-saving plasma is accessible when and where it is most needed.”
Regulatory Information
CAUTION: The FrontlineODP™ Spray Dried Plasma System is an investigational device. Its use is limited by law to investigational purposes, as it has not yet received regulatory approval for any indication. Compliance with regulatory requirements varies by country and region.
Velico's innovative development program has been supported, in part, by federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services and other related organizations.
