United Airlines CEO Commends Employees for Their Dedication

United Airlines CEO Commends Employees for Their Dedication

United Airlines CEO Commends Team for Exceptional Service

Hello, United team!

I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the remarkable efforts you've demonstrated in recent days. Your dedication and swift actions in response to the latest FAA directive have not gone unnoticed. When we received word about the need to cut flights due to a government shutdown, you immediately stepped up to the challenge.

By the end of the day Thursday, thanks to your quick thinking and hard work, we successfully eliminated hundreds of flights that were scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Many of you committed to working over the weekend to prepare for further adjustments this week.

Prioritizing Safety and Customer Experience

Our focus was clear: we had to prioritize safety while ensuring our customers were informed at every stage of the transitioning process. Given how quickly circumstances were changing, we aimed to provide our customers with as much notice and flexibility as possible.

In pursuing this goal, we made thoughtful decisions that centered around what was right for our customers and crews, with little regard for the immediate expenses or financial fallout. As a result, United took the lead in implementing customer-friendly initiatives, some of which included:

Dedicated Cancellation Resources

We launched a dedicated website where customers could view their flight cancellations. This site became a critical resource that we updated on a rolling, three-day basis, allowing customers to access real-time information and plan accordingly.

Proactive Notifications

Moreover, we provided proactive notifications to our passengers regarding alternative flight options through our award-winning mobile application. This ensured that people were well-informed about any changes and rebooking options available to them.

Refund Opportunities for All Customers

Also noteworthy was our decision to allow every customer, regardless of their flight's cancellation status, to request a refund. This approach, even covering nonrefundable tickets, showcased our commitment to customer service during a challenging period.

Each of these policies was made even more effective through the incredible efforts of our frontline teams. Your instinct for openness, transparency, and willingness to assist our passengers at every stage made a significant difference in customer experiences.

A Rewarding Outcome Amidst Challenges

In fact, over the past weekend, we faced more FAA staffing triggers than any other day in history, leading to over 7,500 industry delays on Saturdays alone. Despite these challenges, we witnessed remarkable customer satisfaction, achieving our fourth, fifth, and sixth highest Net Promoter Score (NPS) days this year. It’s astounding that some of our top customer feedback days occurred during one of the most operationally disruptive periods of the year.

Your commitment to prioritizing customer care has clearly made an impact. It stands as a true testament to our philosophy of 'Good Leads The Way.'

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for all that you’ve done during this prolonged government shutdown. Your dedication and compassion toward our customers and each other have truly shone through, making me incredibly proud to be part of this outstanding team.

Thank you once again for your unwavering commitment.

With gratitude,

Scott
