This week, we celebrate a remarkable find at the Wabamisk Property, where Azimut Exploration Inc. has made exciting discoveries in the James Bay region. This prominent gold zone, known as the Rosa Zone, has been identified through diligent prospecting efforts. Stretching over a minimum of 700 meters, it boasts consistent high-grade gold results for more than 300 meters.
Characteristics of the Rosa Zone
The Rosa Zone stands out with its multiple instances of high-grade gold and the impressive visuals of visible gold scattered throughout the area. The ongoing geology assessments reveal that this target is quickening its transition to drilling stages, scheduled for the fall. Placed about 15 kilometers west of another promising target called the Fortin Zone, the Rosa Zone's discovery further cements Wabamisk's status as a prospective mining site.
Exploiting this former partner-operated property, which Azimut regained control of after longstanding management, has yielded multiple exploration successes, including:
- Fortin Zone (known for its antimony-gold content);
- Lithos North & South which focuses on lithium pegmatites, now part of Wabamisk East, a property recently optioned to Rio Tinto;
- Rosa Zone (the star of today's findings).
Understanding the Mineralization
The Rosa Zone's mineralization consists of a sheared quartz vein system intermingled with minor amounts of sulphides like pyrite and chalcopyrite. We've observed visible gold elements across more than ten locations over a stretch of 200 meters on the western edge of the zone. The data supports preliminary findings that include:
- 29 grab samples exceeding 1.0 g/t Au, with 14 samples surpassing 5.0 g/t Au, with one impressive sample reaching 42.0 g/t Au.
- Determined alteration features characterized by tourmaline and chlorite surrounding the quartz veins.
Geometric and Geological Context
From our early assessments, the high-grade mineralization aligns over a notable 700-meter strike, supported by both field evidence and magnetic data. Some crucial attributes include:
- A steeper dip to the south, leading to an estimated thickness between 5 to 10 meters which is still being analyzed.
- Ongoing evaluations are expected to define additional trends, potentially leading to further discoveries south of Rosa.
The geology of the Wabamisk property is situated in the Archean greenstone belt, adjacent to the tectono-metamorphic boundary with the metasedimentary Opinaca Subprovince. It's essential for grounding our mining operations within a productive geological framework.
Future Programs Before Drilling
A systematic follow-up approach has been implemented ahead of the commencement of drilling. Key actions include:
- A collection of 217 rock samples from Rosa, consisting of 198 grab samples and 19 sawed channel samples measuring 18.5 meters.
- Pending results for 53 samples taken for analysis.
- Ongoing high-resolution magnetic survey reprocessing.
- Induced polarization surveys to help forecast drilling targets.
- Scheduled trenching to further clarify the zone's geometry.
Exploration Activities in Nearby Areas
Aside from Rosa, two extensive exploration campaigns are pushing forward in nearby locations:
- At the antimony-gold Fortin Zone, rigorous diamond drilling continues without interruption. Since July, 32 additional holes totaling over 5,000 meters have been drilled. Exciting results are awaited to explain the mineralized nature of this target.
- On the Wabamisk East Property, a comprehensive mapping campaign for lithium continues after renewing agreements with Rio Tinto. With commitments nearing $1.15 million, the project will enhance our efforts towards discovering lithium-rich deposits.
