Tri-County Financial Sees Strong Q2 Performance

Tri-County Financial Sees Strong Q2 Performance

Boost in Net Income Reflects Positive Trends

Oh boy, we’re seeing some solid figures from Tri-County Financial Group for the second quarter of 2026. Their net income climbed 17% compared to last year. That's $4.1 million this time around, or $1.73 per share, up from $3.5 million or $1.47 per share a year ago. For the first half of 2026, they banked $8.6 million, a 41% jump from $6.1 million year-over-year. Not too shabby for a financial institution swimming upstream against today's competitive waters.

Net Interest Income: The Shining Star

Net interest income saw a decent 16% rise from $12.2 million to $14.2 million. Increased yields on earning assets and some clever tightening of funding costs did the trick here. The CEO, Kirk Ross, seems pretty pumped about continued improvement in their net interest margin, which is bread and butter money for a bank.

If we’re honest, diving into their strategy, it’s apparent they’ve nailed down their focus on fostering long-term relationships within their communities. That local touch can be an ace in the hole—relationships stay sturdy when the winds of economic uncertainty begin to howl.

Deposits Grow While Loans Drop

Deposits are another bright spot for Tri-County, ballooning by $28 million when compared to last year's numbers. Strip out the brokered deposits, and we’re actually talking a $50.5 million hike. Not a bad sign that your base trusts you enough to keep their hard-earned money with you.

"While competition for deposits remains elevated, we are confident in our strategy," said Kirk Ross, reminding everyone that the local market can still be a fierce battlefield.

Loan Dynamics

It's not all sunshine and rainbows in their loan department, though. They saw a $13.7 million decrease in total loans which might raise an eyebrow or two. On top of that, nonperforming loans ticked slightly higher, moving from 0.29% to 0.46% over the year. Management won't be shrugging that off anytime soon, I’d wager.

The company’s credit loss expense packs a punch too. Shot up to $1.1 million—a significant swing from a recovery position last year. They point fingers at increased unfunded commitments, but it’s worth watching if the broader economic landscape tosses more curveballs their way.

Investment Portfolio Gets a Look

Portfolio Adjustments

The investment portfolio has slimmed down by about $0.5 million, clocking in at $147.6 million. While that's going to draw some attention, it says something when none are held-to-maturity—keeping it versatile for swings. Yet, it might rattle a few nerves when unrealized gains and losses are lurking in the shadows.

Meanwhile, FHLB advances took quite a haircut, from $86.9 million to $45.9 million. A reduction like that makes you wonder a bit whether they’re trimming the fat or holding cash for something else in the upcoming months.

Shareholder Dividends

And let’s not forget the shareholder dividends—it’s like winding down with a good whiskey. Come July 9th, they'll be dishing out $0.28 per share like clockwork. Keeps the investors grinning, but they’ll be eagle-eyed on how the company rides out these waves next quarter.

The Road Ahead

So, what’s next for OTCQX:TYFG? More competition in snagging deposits is almost a given. Yet, with their focus on community and some keen-eyed management decisions, they might just hold their ground. Those scrutinizing every quarterly report and shareholder smile will want to keep a hawk eye on loan management and credit losses, though.

Counting on unpredictable winds in the financial seas is part of the game. The numbers here speak well for Tri-County's strategy so far, but it's the twists in the journey that’ll truly tell. For now, those holding TYFG may feel a steady grip, but they shouldn't throw caution to the wind just yet.
