Panasonic TOUGHBOOK has announced the successful implementation of over 2,500 rugged 5G routers for The AA's fleet of roadside assistance vehicles. This initiative signifies a leap forward in vehicle connectivity and operational efficiency.

The deployment of Panasonic’s Connected Vehicle solution was completed in an ambitious timeline of just over nine months. This large-scale project was executed in collaboration with The AA, Cradlepoint, and Gamma Telecom, showcasing a commitment to enhancing service delivery.
Panasonic TOUGHBOOK took charge of the overall management, overseeing project management, installation, testing, training, reporting, and ongoing field service maintenance planned for the next five years. This comprehensive approach ensures that The AA can focus on delivering quality roadside assistance without the worry of connectivity issues.
Optimised Connectivity Across the Region
Connectivity extends reliably within a 25-metre radius of the vehicles. By utilizing a dual-5G modem design with primary and backup SIMs, The AA achieves an impressive connectivity rate of up to 98% across the region.
Real-time data gathered from various hardware solutions—including vehicle diagnostics, onboard cameras, and dispatch information—rely heavily on this robust and dependable connectivity. Panasonic’s solution effectively minimizes downtime, streamlining roadside operations, and enhancing overall efficiency.
Utilizing Panasonic's system also leads to significant cost reductions, as it eliminates the need for multiple cellular plans and devices. This integration prevents unexpected data charges while removing the logistical challenges associated with managing numerous contracts and devices.
Real-Time Insights for Better Decision Making
In a bid to improve operational efficiency further, Panasonic manages Ericsson’s NetCloud Manager platform for The AA. This platform offers real-time insights into data usage, application performance, and network metrics. Consequently, this single-pane monitoring system provides The AA with comprehensive visibility and swift insights into fleet performance.
Improving Technician Efficiency on the Ground
For certain patrols, The AA employs an innovative Screen Mirroring Solution, allowing on-screen data from the TOUGHBOOK devices to be projected onto the patrol vehicles' infotainment screen. This advancement boosts productivity, flexibility, and enhances communication among technicians in the field.
