Shimmick's responsibilities will include constructing a new bridge, demolishing the existing one, improving pedestrian access significantly, and returning the historic Santa Monica Pier Arched Neon Sign to its former glory.
Work on this project is slated to commence in the last quarter of 2025 and is estimated to span over 22 months, with an expected completion date just before the celebrated 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Renton Transit Center Enhancements
The second contract, valued at $48.2 million, involves the Renton Transit Center project, initiated by Sound Transit. This project is pivotal in addressing the expanding mobility needs of the Puget Sound area. It will feature a cutting-edge transit center equipped with a bus bay island hosting eight active bays and a specialized steel canopy structure.
Additionally, the project will include the development of infrastructure for a Battery Electric Bus (BEB) equipment yard, focusing on sustainability in public transport, alongside improvements to local roadways that will facilitate a dedicated bus-only lane. Such enhancements are projected to significantly alleviate congestion and support Sound Transit’s sustainability objectives.
