EL SEGUNDO, California – Raytheon, part of RTX (NYSE: RTX), proudly announces the delivery of the first PhantomStrike radar to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for their FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft fleet.
PhantomStrike is an advanced fire-control radar, engineered for exceptional performance in detecting and tracking air and ground threats. This cutting-edge radar utilizes the latest Gallium Nitride technology, which is fully air-cooled and designed to excel in both range and efficiency. Significantly, it operates at almost half the cost of conventional fire-control radars, offering enhanced capabilities such as quicker and more agile digital beam steering, improved target detection, and heightened resistance to jamming.
According to Dan Theisen, president of Advanced Products and Solutions at Raytheon, "In today’s complex battlespaces, aircrew rely on precise information to make rapid decisions that ensure mission success. The delivery of the first PhantomStrike system to KAI is essential in equipping our clients with the necessary advanced technology to maintain their combat edge."
This innovative radar is designed for various platforms, including uncrewed systems, light-attack aircraft, fighter jets, and helicopters, demonstrating versatility in operational environments. PhantomStrike achieves the performance of traditional fighter radar systems while maintaining a smaller footprint and lower weight—nearly 50% lighter than modern active electronically scanned array radars.
Furthermore, PhantomStrike has received approval for export as a Direct Commercial Sale product. Recently, Raytheon completed a series of critical flight tests on its Multi-Program Testbed aircraft, showcasing impressive air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities. Alongside these tests, a lab unit was delivered for aircraft integration testing.
Production of the PhantomStrike radar takes place across multiple sites, including Forest, Mississippi; Tucson, Arizona; and Scotland, with significant collaboration from Raytheon UK.
