Progress at Madsen Mine: Update on Operations and Future Plans
West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. Provides Madsen Mine Update
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (TSXV: WRLG) (OTCQB: WRLGF) is excited to share an update regarding the operational readiness at its fully-owned Madsen Mine project. This site is located within the productive Red Lake Gold District, known for its historical gold yields.
Shane Williams, President and CEO of West Red Lake Gold, expressed enthusiasm about the continuous advancements towards the Madsen Mine restart. The team has been actively engaged in access development for test mining, which commenced in the late summer, setting the stage for productive operations ahead. Surface stockpiling of bulk samples generated during test mining will be conducted for batch processing. Current projects, such as the Connection Drift, primary crusher setup, and camp installation, are all proceeding smoothly, complemented by ongoing mine planning and definition drilling.
Connection Drift Project Progress
One of the major capital projects, the Connection Drift, has reached a significant milestone of 50% completion. This crucial infrastructure is scheduled to be finalized by the end of March 2025. Extending 1.2 kilometers, the Connection Drift serves as a vital haulage way linking the historic West Portal with the modern East Portal, thereby enhancing access to the mine's various zones, including Austin, South Austin, and McVeigh.
The previous operator initially developed the East Portal but later reverted to utilizing the West Portal due to cost concerns. However, West Red Lake Gold identified inefficiencies in this approach.
- The West Portal's size restricts truck hauling to just 30 tonnes.
- Historic haulage routes are inefficient due to steep descents and sharp turns.
- The route from the portal to the mill intersects two public roads, necessitating daylight-only transport due to noise restrictions.
- Much of the resource sits beneath the mill, necessitating unnecessary trucking over extended distances.
In contrast, the East Portal accommodates larger 60-tonne trucks, creating a more efficient haulage route adjacent to the primary crusher near the mill. By enabling the movement of all mined material through the East Portal, the Connection Drift aims to remedy the inefficiencies observed with the West Portal.
To finance this important project, West Red Lake Gold secured $10 million through Canadian Development Expense flow-through funds, with work commencing in August 2024.
According to Maurice Mostert, VP of Technical Services, the Connection Drift is pivotal in optimizing operational efficiency. It will grant the mining teams hands-on experience while unlocking potential drilling targets.
Completion of the Primary Crusher
The commissioning of the primary crusher on-site marks another important step in preparation for Madsen Mine's restart. Delivered on November 5, 2024, it has been successfully assembled and is now operational.
“This reliable primary crusher signifies our commitment to capital investments aimed at streamlining operations for a successful restart,” stated Williams, noting the excitement surrounding its functionality.
New Camp Facilities Installed
The installation of new camp facilities commenced with delivery on November 11, 2024. This facility accommodates 114 personnel, featuring private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, a dining hall, a kitchen, and recreation areas.
Horizon North, a recognized leader in workforce accommodation solutions for the mining sector, is responsible for staffing and operations at the camp.
