You and Linda had the company of others. My wife and I were stranded 100's of feet in the air once on a railroad overpass that spanned a river. My wife's snowmobile ski became stuck in one of the railroad ties. It was only her and I so it was up to me to take the ski off in the dark with the headlight from my snowmobile using the lame set of tools they provide with the sled. I couldn't fall through the ties because my body wouldn't fit but my leg was dangling 100'+ in the air while I laid down to free the ski looking into a pitch black canyon. It was one of those "remote" experiences in the middle of nowhere in the darkness that you never forget. Their were walls and a roof on the overpass but the gaps in the ties were side enough for a small child to fall through. Yikes!
