Mining in Mexico Jalisco.................. Minin
Post# of 9903
Mexico is especially known for its world-class silver mines ranking second in global production,
but the country is also host to an abundance of gold, copper, zinc and lead. The majority of gold
production in Mexico is as a co-product of silver or copper operations, which is characteristic of the
Cinco Minas property.
Mexico is considered to be both politically and ?nancially stable, a member nation of NAFTA and
has historically been friendly toward the mining industry. In 2009, more than USD$40 billion was spent
on infrastructure in Mexico, and the country ranks 4th in the world for attracting mining investment dollars.
In terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Mexico was the 8th most attractive country in 2010, which is an
improvement of 11 spots since 2007.
In the vicinity of Cinco Minas, there are several operations either in production or exploration.
A notable production mine in the region is First Majestic’s San Martin Silver Mine to the north.
First Majestic is a New York Stock Exchange company which trades under the ticker symbol AG,
and currently has a market capitalization of over USD$1.8 billion. While it should be pointed out that First
Majestic has a number of mines currently in production, their San Martin Mine has a Proven & Probable silver
reserves of over 6.7 million oz., and a further silver resource of 14.2 million oz. Measured & Indicated.
Interesting, Hmmmmm..................
