Rare, Traveling Dairy Artifact Exhibit to Debut at Wise Traditions Conference in November

Washington, DC, Sept. 23, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Butterworld, a traveling exhibition of 17 th through 20 th century dairy artifacts from around the world, will open to the public for the first time from November 8-10, 2013 at the Wise Traditions Conference in Atlanta, GA.

This rare collection is made up of over 150 artifacts, including historical books, vintage advertisements, antique bottles, butter churners and other equipment. Many of the artifacts will be displayed with historical context. In the mid-19 th century, for example, there was a common superstition that cream would not turn into butter if it was haunted by a witch, who could only be scared away by a red-hot horseshoe. The Osborne's Improved Thermometer Churn, which houses an internal tin tub to heat the cream, was marketed as a solution to keep away the "cream witch." Another can't-miss item in the collection is the cream-separating bottle, which allows raw milk drinkers to pour cream into their coffee without allowing any skim milk to come with it.

Butterworld was curated by Sandeep Agarwal, whose interest in dairy history grew out of his family's ghee business and the significant role that dairy plays within his Indian culture.

"The opportunity to debut this unique exhibition at the Wise Traditions Conference just made sense," says Agarwal. "Attendees of this conference are passionate about traditional foods, and dairy products have been an important part of traditional diets across so many cultures. This is a wonderful opportunity to share these rare artifacts that have been collected from around the world."

For a limited time and only for the Wise Traditions Conference, Butterworld will also include a special exhibit examining the history of cod liver oil. This exhibit will showcase historical cod liver oil pamphlets, antique cod liver bottles and a Victorian-era spoon from England purposed specifically for taking cod liver oil.

The Wise Traditions Conference brings together nutrition and health experts from across the country to examine nutrition, health and other holistic wellness topics. The event is open to the public and is sponsored by the Weston A. Price Foundation, an educational non-profit focused on promoting "traditional" foods rich in essential nutrients, including raw milk and animal fats. Butterworld will be open to attendees throughout the duration of the conference. Tickets will be available for $5 cash at the entrance to the exhibit.

The Weston A. Price Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nutrition education foundation with the mission of disseminating accurate, science-based information on diet and health. Named after nutrition pioneer Weston A. Price, DDS, author of Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, the Washington, DC-based Foundation publishes a quarterly journal for its 16,500 members, supports 574 local chapters worldwide and hosts a yearly international conference. The Foundation phone number is (202) 363-4394, westonaprice.org , info@westonaprice.org .
