NASCAR crew chiefs and engineers, with the luxury of left-hand-only turns, figured this out a long time ago and set the camber to maximize grip all the way around the oval track. Of course, the driver’s have to come to the pits for tire changes three or four tires during the race because of irregular tread wear, among other things. But, because the Camber Tire’s tread lays flat against the pavement in turns, irregular tread wear isn’t an issue.
For now, armed with his approved patent and a thumbs-up from the Department of Transportation for durability and speed ratings, Scott is concentrating on the performance market. His next move: a wider range of sizes and the consumer market. Just think, your next tire might redefine round.
