MARYLAND man convicted of smuggling illegal alien at NY border for helping his nephew
ALBANY, New York — A 48-year-old Maryland man who tried to help his nephew sneak across the Canadian border into New York has been convicted of smuggling an illegal alien across the U.S. border.

Prosecutors say Guillermo Antonio Suarez of Gaithersburg could face up to 10 years in prison at sentencing Jan. 6.
Suarez, a legal permanent U.S. resident, was arrested Nov. 19 in Fort Covington.
Authorities say he dropped his nephew off on the Canadian side of the border and entered the U.S. by car while his nephew crossed on foot through the woods about three miles away.
At the border crossing, inspectors say they found border maps and his nephew's luggage in Suarez's car.
