Europe stocks mostly lower; Nokia jumps 4%
MADRID (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets opened mostly lower on Friday, tracking sharp losses in Asia as investors grew wary of the potential for more monetary easing. The Stoxx Europe 600 index (STX:XX:SXXP) was slightly lower at 267.54, with shares of Banco Santander SA [es: san] (NYSE:SAN) down 1%, while shares of Nokia Corp. (NYSE:NOK) (HEL:FI:NOK1V) jumped 4%. Overnight, a South Korean court ruled on mutual patent lawsuits between Samsung Electronics Co. (OTN:SSNGY) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) . Miners were among the bigger losers, with BHP Billiton PLC (LSS:UK:BLT) (NYSE:BHP) off nearly 2%, leaving the FTSE 100 index (FTI:UK:UKX) off 0.2% to 5,767.50. The German DAX 30 index (ITFXAX) was flat at 6,946.31 and the French CAC 40 index (ENX:FRX1) was off 0.1% to 3,428.12
