That’s the problem being addressed by Native Voice TV, our latest contributor to the TelVue Connect Media Exchange. In a series of half-hour shows, Native Voice TV, in their own words: “seeks to provide a voice for Indigenous people to tell of their struggles and injustices that are often ignored by the mainstream media.”
“Native Voice TV is totally about not losing the culture,” explains the organization’s Web guru Manu Martinez. “My job is to promote it with the latest technologies. TelVue has really opened up a whole new audience for us. The Media Exchange is an incredible tool to reach out to TV stations around the world.” The California-based Native Voice TV also maintains an active Facebook page, and hopes to soon be streaming its programs over the Internet.
Manu is currently organizing nine years’ worth of Native Voice TV shows into a database that will preserve the storytelling traditions of the many guests that have appeared in the past. “It’s about letting people know about the struggles of Native American and all indigenous cultures. It’s educational. It’s historical.”
