Eliot Spitzer lost a bid for political redemption on Tuesday , as he was defeated in the Democratic primary for New York City comptroller by the current Manhattan borough president, Scott M. Stringer.
Mr. Spitzer resigned as governor five years ago in a prostitution scandal, and Mr. Stringer repeatedly invoked it during their brief but bitter campaign.
