U.S. stocks extend slide into second day
Minutes from latest Federal Reserve meeting due in afternoon
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stocks slid for a second straight session Wednesday after a recent run that had the indexes at multi-year highs.
“We’re pushing up at levels now where a bit of a pullback is in our near future, the question is how severe,” said Andrew Fitzpatrick, director of investments at Hinsdale Associates Inc.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI JIA) fell 62.40 points, or 0.5%, to 13,141.2.
The S&P 500 index (SNC:SPX) lost 5.01 points, or 0.4%, to 1,408.16.
The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ:COMP) slid 7.59 points, or 0.3%, to 3,059.67.
For every stock rising, nearly two fell on the New York Stock Exchange, where 148 million shares traded as of 11:05 a.m. Eastern. Composite volume neared 293 million.
