WINNIPEG - A Fargo man has been charged in Canada with illegal border crossing, theft of a motor vehicle, mischief, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle and other counts, according the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Joshua James Grandbois, 29, was arrested Tuesday by RCMP officers using a police dog in a wooded area in the Cartier, Manitoba, Rural Municipality, the RCMP reported.

According to a news release, the RCMP learned Saturday that a car with North Dakota plates had illegally entered Canada and that its driver, fleeing U.S. authorities, crossed through the Lena, Manitoba, port of entry, north of Rolla, N.D., without reporting to Canada Border Services.

RCMP learned the driver was in a stolen Chevrolet Lumina but could not locate the vehicle. Later they learned that an older Ford F-150 pickup had been stolen from the Whitewater Rural Municipality and a car with U.S. plates had been left behind.

RCMP officers located the pickup on the Trans-Canada Highway later that day, but the driver escaped officers by speeding away on a gravel road and then fleeing on foot.

Soon after that, officers received reports of another stolen pickup, a white Ford F-350 from the St. Francis Xavier, Manitoba, area. Officers later found the vehicle but could not find the driver.

RCMP officers in Headingley, Manitoba, were alerted to reports of an unknown man Tuesday and tracked him to the spot where he was arrested.

Grandbois was held pending a court appearance Wednesday in Winnipeg.
