If they over commit to breaking support and are wrong, they face a big squeeze as what happened back in July. Another thing is that I've noticed many times that when people are trying to cause a shakeout, they don't really want to destroy trendlines as that would make it harder to get a bounce once they turn around and go long.
It's like armed robbery. When robbers go into the bank brandishing an AK 47, they are trying to scare people into giving them money not commit quadruple homicide.
