Sovereign OG is a really super strain of weed. It won a High Times Cannabis Cup recently for best hybrid. The submitter, according to High Times, was "Sovereign Collective", which sounds like the consulting company.
OG Kush was developed in Socal about six or seven years ago. It was really great and smokers loved it to the tune of almost a cult following. Then dozens of other OG strains hit the market, and none of them were anywheres near as good as the original. From what I understand, the Sovereign guys were able to salvage the original genetics through some kind of breeding technique and stabilize them into Sovereign OG. It's complicated, but the stabiizing part is really important to keep the strain strong and good over a few generations.
The reason that nobody knows much about the background of the company is the same as the reason that few outside of the mmj scene knew of Berkley Bio or the Yak, or 99% of the other companies that have supplied stuff to dispensaries over the last ten years or so.
Only actual dispensaries publicize their location. Every other mmj biz flew under the radar, maintained a low profile, kept their asses hidden from the feds, etc. These types of businesses dealt with the dispensaries directly. Kind of dumb in the mmj scene to advertise where you keep your stuff if you don't have to.
Most mmj companies that supplied dispensaries did everything necessary to stay within California laws, and hope the feds didn't take notice. That's why you see papers filed and taxes paid, but no branding, no advertising, no publicity from the company. Lots of mmj operators kept their heads up just enough to show the state that they are trying to follow state law and stay medical, instead of dealing illegal drugs.
It's crazy to see those guys claiming that these businesses can't be real because they don't have much of a public presence. No mmj person with a gram of common sense would crank up their exposure any more than was necessary to keep in good with the state.
So I don't know anything about the Sovereign collective or consulting or whatever it is. I remember somebody posting some kind of DD on it showing it is some kind of legal entity. But I know this. There are almost a thousand recognized pot strains out there and I put Sovereign OG is in the top 5. I think all seasoned smokers who know the current scene think so too.
