Delaware County Intermediate Unit Chooses InfoExpress CGX to Secures its BYOD Environment

Mountain View, Calif., Aug. 20, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InfoExpress , an enterprise Network Access Control (NAC) solutions provider for mobile computing and secure Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) networks, announced today that Morton, PA-based Delaware County Intermediate Unit ( DICU ) is using InfoExpress CGX to secure its network and to better monitor and manage the mobile devices that students and faculty bring to its sites.

News Facts

·       The DCIU currently serves 15 Public School Districts (105 schools), 44 Archdiocesan Schools, 84 Private Schools with more than 80,000 students and 6,000 educators. Roughly 15,000 students are enrolled in the DCIU's special, career, and technical education programs.

·       DCIU needed a way to make sure that system policies were enforced properly, could monitor applications running to be certain software was up-to-date and strengthen the security of mobile devices, thereby improving the security of the district's network.

·       It also needed a network security platform that was cost-effective, simple to manage, scalable and had the ability to allow each school district to manage their own BYOD solution and address all their needs.

·       The DCIU chose InfoExpress CGX and deployed it at its location, giving distant DCIU and school locations the ability to remotely enforce and monitor their own distinct security policies and IT controls. Currently, CGX is enforcing multiple security controls at the DCIU including making sure spam filters, anti-malware, and fully up-to-date operating systems are in-use. Users of noncompliant devices receive a warning and are advised to update the systems or are quarantined for remediation.

·       CGX has already provided a positive return to DCIU. Soon after the pilot, the DCIU was hit with a virus that turned some of its systems into a controlled botnet. The virus most likely entered the environment through a USB stick, and soon after, infected a number of systems. Fortunately, CGX was able to detect, remediate, and notify the user if their anti-virus was transparently updated. And due to the urgent nature of this threat, the DCIU performed a much wider CGX rollout to eliminate the virus and botnet from their environment.

·       InfoExpress offers several endpoint visibility and access control options, including in-line, 802.1x, out-of-band integration with major network vendors, and Dynamic NAC (DNAC). DCIU is using the 802.1x module for WLAN enforcement and DNAC on the wired LAN.  Unique to the market, DNAC provides out-of-band enforcement and requires no network changes. This makes it many times easier and faster to deploy--and it continuously checks all devices on the network.

Comments

"District officials needed a way to make sure that the system policies were enforced properly, and they wanted to make sure that they could monitor what applications were running so they could be certain that their software was up-to-date," says Robert Hilinski, director of information technology and systems for the DCIU.

"The district really appreciates CGX. It likes the fact that it can manage its own policies. The tech directors are happy that they can create their own policies for their individual devices and they can manage them themselves. This will enable all of the districts to manage their own BYOD policies with their own administrators, said Hilinski."

"CGX provides the deepest level of endpoint visibility and access control that gives organizations of all sizes the ability to reap the numerous benefits of BYOD," said Stacey Lum, CEO of InfoExpress. "The added layer of security ensures that only safe and authorized devices are on the network, and provides visibility to everything that is happening."

About DNAC

DNAC offers centralized management, flexible policies, granular quarantining and monitoring, and remediation of unhealthy systems. It also can be installed within hours. Because there is no need to change the network or update network devices, DNAC doesn't require expensive network changes.
