annihilator_concept_artIt’s been more than a year since comics legend Stan Lee announced Real Steel screenwriter Dan Gilroy would pen his upcoming film project The Annihilator, and very few developments have been announced about the project since. However, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Bones and Enchanted producer Barry Josephson has signed on to the film. serving as producer.
Financed by a co-production deal between Magic Storm Entertainment (of which Lee’s POW! Entertainment is a partner) and the Chinese state-run National Film Capital, The Annihilator follows Ming, a Chinese expatriate who has to choose between remaining in prison or enlisting in a secret American “super soldier program.”
THR reports the film, the first of several projects partially funded by China’s National Film Capital, will reportedly cost between $100 million and $150 million. The film will be in English with some Mandarin scenes.
In addition to Bones and Enchanted, ex-Sony and Columbia executive Josephson is no stranger to adapting comic book-like films, and had a hand in the original Men in Black film, The Fifth Element and more. He also served as the co-producer for Tales from the Crypt and executive producer for the short-lived The Tick live-action television series.
