Coming up: CPI, Empire State reports
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. Department of Labor will issue its monthly report on consumer prices at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch expect that the consumer price index rose 0.2% in July, compared with no gain in June. Analysts also expect that the core rate, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.2%, matching the increase in June. Also at 8:30 a.m., the New York Federal Reserve Bank will release the Empire State Manufacturing survey for August. Economists polled by MarketWatch expect the index to decline slightly to 6.0 from 7.4 in July. Most manufacturing surveys have weakened in recent months.
