OMA Reports a 6.0% Increase in July 2013 Passenger Traffic

MONTERREY, Mexico, Aug. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq: OMAB ) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 6.0% in July 2013, as compared to July 2012. Domestic traffic increased 7.3%, and international traffic decreased 2.6%.

Of total July traffic, 98.0% was commercial aviation and 2.0% was general aviation.

* Terminal passengers: includes passengers on the three types of aviation (commercial, charter, and general aviation), and excludes passengers in transit.    

Domestic traffic increased in twelve airports in July, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+5.8%), Acapulco (+20.6%), Torreón (+28.1%), Mazatlán (+12.8%), and Reynosa (+23.2%). Monterrey and Acapulco traffic increased principally on the routes to Mexico City and Toluca. Torreón, Mazatlán, and Reynosa increased traffic on their Mexico City routes. Volaris started flying the Ciudad Juárez-Cancún y Chihuahua-Cancún routes in July, and Interjet started operating the Mazatlán-Mexico City, Reynosa-Mexico City, and Torreón-Mexico City routes.

International traffic increased most significantly in Zacatecas (+20.3%) and Culiacán (+69.3%). Zacatecas traffic increased principally on the Dallas route, and Culiacán traffic increased on the Los Angeles route. The most significant reductions were in Monterrey (-3.0%), San Luis Potosí (-17.1%), and Torreón (-20.5%). The Monterrey and San Luis Potosí airports were affected by reductions on their Houston routes, while Torreón was affected by a reduction in passenger traffic to Dallas. Volaris began operating the Culiacán-Los Angeles route in July.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in July decreased 2.8% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations decreased 2.4% and international operations decreased 5.0%.
