SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) share of the table market fell sharply in the second quarter, as rivals led by Samsung posted strong gains, IDC said Monday. Apple's iPad was still the top tablet seller, with 32% of the 45 million units sold in the quarter, but that was down from 60% share in the year-earlier period. Apple also sold only 15 million units, down 14% from the year-earlier period. Samsung's tablet sales quadrupled to 8.1 million, or 18% of the market, up from 8% in the year-earlier period. "The tablet market is still evolving and vendors can rise and fall quickly as a result," IDC analyst Ryan Reith said in a statement.
